Poetry:  The Ones in Need

The Ones in Need

We all hear their screams, why don’t we assist?

Our ears, we pretend, such screams may have missed,

They are those in need, in places in turmoil,

Those finding death, for gold, or for oil,

We could all help, and relieve the pain,

But, here we sit, worthless, inane,

The cost isn’t much, most could oblige,

Yet even the rich, exaggerate the size,

To send such aid, requires only consent,

I’m speaking of peace, it could end such torment,

Yet, we scoff at it’s existence, claim it a joke,

All the while men die, lives go up in smoke,

We know of others strife, we know many have died,,

But it doesn’t hurt us, so we stay home and hide,

Why don’t we help, to make sure no one dies?

Perhaps we would, if we saw life though their eyes.
